We have an opportunity for a Senior Process Engineer in our Advanced Materials and Structures business.

The Senior Process Engineer will be recognized as an expert in web handling and winding. They will propagate production process best practices for the global AMS organization. This position is responsible for evaluating existing processes and defining the configuration of new manufacturing systems to safely reduce cost, gain efficiencies, and reduce production variability. The position is located at our Middletown Delaware facility but project assignments may be at any of our global sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, progress reporting, people management and troubleshooting for engineering projects.
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost.
  • Interprets internal or external issues and recommends solutions/best practices.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions.
  • Manages and leads projects.
  • Reviews and designs new production/manufacturing processes that improve production speed, quality, or safety.
  • Follows all company established methods, policies, rules, practices, and procedures to ensure employee safety, product quality and efficient operations.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves existing manufacturing methods and processes and documents the results in experimental reports.
  • Collaborates with planning, customer sales and engineering staff concerning product design, specification and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Collaborates with vendors and customers to determine critical product properties, product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff to understand manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to expand production capacity.
  • Provides work instructions for operators and supervisors regarding product manufacture.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications:

Bachelor's in an Engineering discipline (mechanical preferred) and a minimum of five years relevant manufacturing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in light weight, web based, manufacturing processes such as films, nets, non-wovens, coated films, or paper is strongly desired. Experiences with web converting (e.g. slitting) and lamination processes are also preferred.
  • Skilled in applying fundamentals of engineering to tension and path control applications or similar applications where an understanding of the physics of the system is critical for success.
  • Skilled in communicating complex concepts using visual models and everyday explanations.
  • Skilled in applying the scientific method to problem solving.
  • Skilled in designing and executing design of experiments.
  • Strong skills in process measurement instrumentation and sensing
  • Familiar with simple controls techniques and essential machinery elements (structures, drives, bearings, heating/cooling, etc.)
  • Skilled using statistical and modelling tools such as Minitab, Matlab, MathCAD. Familiar with database structures and data mining for correlation analysis.
