Part-Time (24 hours per week) $40-42 per hour In-Person Position
BVMI is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am to 5pm; Tuesdays 11am
to 7pm and Fridays 9am to 4:30pm. The Charge Nurse will join a
clinical team of practitioners and nurses to provide high-quality
primary and preventive healthcare to a multicultural, uninsured
population in a practice environment that is respectful of patients
and supportive of medical care. The Charge Nurse will supervise
nursing staff and oversee patient flow while on duty. Principal
Duties and Responsibilities for Charge Nurse Clinical Care Work
collaboratively with primary and specialty practitioners, nurse
managers, medical directors, director of nursing and operations
managers as part of a treatment team to address patient care
scheduling, urgent and chronic healthcare needs and provide
preventive care. Assist in delivering patient education and
referrals to ancillary services. Support volunteer and staff
practitioners that provide patient care on-site and via telehealth.
Take and record vital signs, populate patient medical histories,
and other visit information into the EMR. Charge-Nurse Duties
Triage and manage daily patient phone encounters, including sick
calls, test/procedure follow-up, and referral questions, ensuring
all interactions are documented in the EMR. Oversee patient flow
and provide clinical guidance to nursing staff. Provide clinical
guidance for the front desk staff as needed. Exercise autonomy for
urgent care scheduling and consult the Medical Director or
Assistant Medical Director for high-risk notifications from the
front desk staff, while ensuring all interactions are documented in
the EMR. Provide immediate notification to the Medical Director or
Assistant Medical Director of any ED referrals issued by a provider
during a patient care visit. Monitor patients annual and follow-up
care to ensure appropriate continuity of care. Cover or assign
scheduled nursing visit appointments in ATHENA NURSE SCHEDULE.
Confirm nursing and interpreter schedules the day before and make
any necessary changes based on last minute
cancellations/rescheduling (Patients or providers). Precept new
nurses in EMR use, BVMI protocols and in Womens Health Collaborate
with the clinical pharmacist to ensure proper medication
documentation, storage, administration and sample distribution.
Ensure proper and safe autoclave sterilization for disinfection and
decontamination of medical instruments. Manage patient care issues
with assistance from the Director of Nursing as needed. In the
absence of the Director of Nursing, request medical supply
replenishment via the BVMI employee website as needed and confirm
delivery of the restocked items. In the absence of the Director of
Nursing, cancel volunteer clinical staff and interpreters based on
scheduled visits, with assistance from the Volunteer Manager as
needed. Report any medical equipment or maintenance issues promptly
to Director of Operations via email to ensure proper repair or
replacement as needed and inform the Nurse Manager or Director of
Nursing of reported issues. Emergency Equipment: Be familiar with
the AED location and usage. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Current RN/LPN licensure in New Jersey. Excellent interpersonal
skills and ability to work effectively with a large volunteer
staff. Effective communication skills with other management team
members, volunteers, staff, practitioners, and administrative
departments. Experience with electronic medical records; ability to
learn and help train others. Ability to work collaboratively in a
multidisciplinary environment, maintain attention to detail and
manage shifting clinical priorities. Must maintain current Adult
BLS/CPR certification Employment Standards: Bachelor of Science
degree in nursing Experience in multi-physician practice or
hospital-based ambulatory care service Two - five years minimum
recent experience as Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse preferably in
Primary Care. Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work
with a large volunteer staff Experience with electronic medical
records Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Join our team and make a
